Acupuncture works for CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome)
In November 2007 a single blinded, randomized controlled study was designed and carried out to investigate the efficacy of acupuncture for treating Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). The trial invloved 99 participants who were then split into a ‘sham acupuncture’ control group and an acupuncture testing group. The test conducted over a 4 week period and the participants were measured before and after, using a scale which is used in the US for diagnosing CFS and a health related quality of life questionnaire. The results show that both groups displayed improvements in mental and phyiscal fatigue and quality of life but the true acupuncture group showed significant improvements. No adverse reactions were recorded.
In clinical practice I have found that with a combination of careful nutrition, regular acupuncture treatment and Qi Gong exercise we can get excellent results even with severe cases of ME and CFS.
